How To Do Market Research.com is the work of two individuals, both market researchers. We've both had careers working in market research departments of Fortune 500 companies and we've both owned and operated freelance market research consultancies, helping firms of all sizes plan and execute market research projects.
Bob holds a B.A. from Duke University and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Both are in the area of American history. After graduating, he accepted a position with the old AT&T, just prior to the break-up of the company in 1984. Working in the market research department managing secondary market research and synthesizing the work of multiple market researchers in the department, he learned the nuts and bolts of market research from the ground up.
Bob later transferred to the then newly-forming AT&T Universal Card Services (1990), where he led market research efforts that supported the highly successful launch of the Universal Card and, two years later, the award of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award to the company.
In 1996, Bob left the company to form a market research services business. He has been helping clients conduct market research ever since.
Mike is the younger of the team (Bob is a baby boomer and Mike a Gen X'er) and the quantitative guru of the team.
Mike holds a B.S. from the University of Central Florida and studied in the Ph.D. program at the University of North Texas in quantitative methodology.
Mike has 15 years experience conducting market research for Fortune 500 companies, including financial services and big-box retailers. He has an additional specialty in customer satisfaction research, having developed market research processes to link external customer satisfaction data with internal business metrics.
